AI Visibility for Claude: How to Show Up

AI visibility and AEO for Claude. What we're seeing in how Anthropic's assistant recommends brands from what it already knows, and how to show up in its answers.

Updated

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant. It searches the web less often than other assistants and leans more on what it already knows, so Centium measures it without search: the closest thing to a closed-book exam on your brand. What it learned before its training cutoff is what it has to work with.

Centium tracks Claude on every plan, alongside six other models. What follows are trends from our tracking rather than rules, and we will update this page as they shift.

How Claude answers

A model's training data is a snapshot of the web up to a cutoff date, and the model reaches people months after that. So Claude's picture of your market trails the present. A product launch, an award, or a new competitor after the cutoff may not exist for it until a newer model is trained.

The other six models we track search the web for recommendations. Running Claude without search shows you what a model believes about your category before it looks anything up.

What we're seeing

It rewards a long web history. Claude tends to name brands that were widely covered before its training cutoff. Newer brands and recent launches show up less, even when they lead their category today.

It searches less. Claude reaches for the web less often than the other models, and we run it without search to tap into its training knowledge. In that view, recent coverage, awards, and product changes reach Claude only when a newer model arrives, so its picture of a market moves in steps rather than week to week.

It describes you the way the web did. How Claude talks about a brand tends to echo how that brand was described across many pages at once. A consistent story across sources gives it a clearer one to repeat.

How to show up in Claude

With a model that answers from training, the work is long term: shape what the web says about you now, so the next model learns it.

  1. Be in the data models train on. Most models learn from Common Crawl, the open archive of the web. Check whether your site is in it with our free training data checker.
  2. Let Anthropic's crawlers in. ClaudeBot collects content for training, and Claude-SearchBot indexes pages for Claude's search. Check your robots.txt with our free AI crawler checker.
  3. Get covered where it will last. Expert reviews, category publications, and reference sites are the pages most likely to be in the next training set. A lasting write-up does more here than a short campaign.
  4. Say the same thing everywhere. State what you make, who it is for, and why it stands out the same way on your site, your listings, and your press. That consistency is what the next model learns.
  5. Measure over time. Work you do today reaches Claude after the next model is trained, not next week. Track your visibility so you see the step when it comes.

Tracking your AI visibility in Claude

Claude is one of seven models Centium runs on every plan. Each report shows how often Claude names your brand, which competitors it names instead, where you land in its answers, and how it describes you, next to the same numbers for every other model. Plans start at $99 a month.

FAQ

questions, answered.

Anthropic's AI assistant. People use it for research, writing, analysis, and coding, and it answers questions about products, places, and companies mostly from what it learned in training. It launched in March 2023.

Mostly from what it learned in training, a snapshot of the web up to its training cutoff. It can search the web, but it does so less often than other assistants, and Centium measures it without search to read what it already knows.

It depends on the model. Each Claude model is trained on data up to a cutoff date, usually months before its release, and each newer model moves that date forward. Our dated guides note the cutoff when the model we track changes.

Not the way you rank on Google. Ask Claude the same question twice and the list can change, so no single answer is a ranking. What you can measure is how often it names you across many prompts, which brands it names instead, and where you tend to land in its answers.

Centium measures your AI visibility in Claude for you. Every plan runs 120 category prompts through all seven models, Claude included, then reports how often Claude names your brand, which competitors it names instead, where you land in the answer, and how it describes you. Plans start at $99 a month with every model included.

Not if you want Claude to know your brand. ClaudeBot collects content for training future models, so blocking it keeps your new pages out of what the next model learns. Claude-SearchBot indexes pages for Claude's search, and Claude-User fetches pages when a person asks. Check which ones your site allows with our free AI crawler checker.

Answer Engine Optimization, also called Generative Engine Optimization or GEO, is the work of getting Claude to name your brand when someone asks about your category rather than about you. For Claude, much of that work is long term: shaping what the web says about you before its next training cutoff.
