AI Visibility for Grok: How to Show Up

AI visibility and AEO for Grok. What we're seeing in how xAI's assistant finds and recommends brands, and how to show up in its answers.

Updated

Grok is xAI's AI assistant, built into X and available on its own. It can search the web and X, and in our tracking it searches before it recommends.

Centium tracks Grok on every plan, alongside six other models. What follows are trends from our tracking rather than rules, and we will update this page as they shift.

How Grok answers

Grok turns a question into searches of its own, the same query fan-out we measure across every model, and credits the pages it used. Its sources look different from the other models: more shopping and review platforms, fewer forums.

What we're seeing

Retailers and review platforms lead its sources. Across the brands we track, the sites Grok cites most include large retailers like REI and Amazon and review platforms like TripAdvisor and Yelp.

It reads people. In our research on who AI reads, Grok landed on a named author more often than any other model. A recognized writer covering your category is a strong way in.

Forums and video play a small part. Reddit and YouTube show up far less in Grok's answers than in Gemini's, Perplexity's, or Google AI Mode's.

How to show up in Grok

The fundamentals are the same as for any model. With Grok, your listings, your reviews, and the people who write about you do more of the work.

  1. Look after your retail listings. Complete product pages and real reviews on the retailers you sell through give Grok a source it favors.
  2. Earn reviews on the platforms it reads. For places and services, Yelp and TripAdvisor are among the sites it cites most.
  3. Get covered by named experts. Grok credits individual writers more than other models do, so reviews and features from recognized people in your category travel further with it.
  4. Keep your own pages clear. When Grok does reach your site, plain statements of what you offer and who it is for are what it can repeat.
  5. Assume it can read what the public can. Grok has been reported to ignore robots.txt, so a blocking rule is no guarantee. Check your robots.txt for the crawlers that do follow it.

Tracking your AI visibility in Grok

Grok is one of seven models Centium runs on every plan. Each report shows how often Grok names your brand, which competitors it names instead, where you land in its answers, and which sources it credits, next to the same numbers for every other model. Plans start at $99 a month.

xAI's AI assistant. It is built into X and also available in its own app and on the web, and it can search the web and X to answer questions. It launched in November 2023.

From live search and what it learned in training. In our tracking, the sites it cites most include large retailers like REI and Amazon and review platforms like TripAdvisor and Yelp, and it credits named writers more often than any other model.

Not the way you rank on Google. Ask Grok the same question twice and the list can change, so no single answer is a ranking. What you can measure is how often it names you across many prompts, which brands it names instead, and where you tend to land in its answers.

Centium measures your AI visibility in Grok for you. Every plan runs 120 category prompts through all seven models, Grok included, then reports how often Grok names your brand, which competitors it names instead, where you land in the answer, and which sources it credits. Plans start at $99 a month with every model included.

Not reliably. Grok has been reported to reach sites as ordinary browser traffic and to ignore robots.txt, so no rule dependably keeps it out. Check your robots.txt for the crawlers that do follow it.

Answer Engine Optimization, also called Generative Engine Optimization or GEO, is the work of getting Grok to name your brand when someone asks about your category rather than about you. For Grok, that leans on your retail listings, your reviews, and coverage from named writers.
